For ten years, Pfizer sponsored an annual invitation-only Health Literacy Conference that explored the health literacy issue from an academic, policy, and advocacy perspective. The Conference was created to convene the leading experts, researchers, and stakeholders in the burgeoning health literacy field and bring them together for discussion, debate and action. The collective efforts of stakeholders in the health literacy field over the last decade have proven very effective in serving as a springboard for such important contributions as the Institute of Medicine's groundbreaking report on health literacy in 2004, to the Surgeon General's health literacy platform, to an explosion of published research in the field. The theme and focus of the Conference varied from year to year. Previous themes have included:
Promoting Health Literacy: A Call to Action
Health Literacy: Advancing Public Policy
Key Advances in Health Literacy: Models for Action
